convergence: movement through union The Hoop Convergence, the very first National Hooper's Conference brought together some of the nation's best hoopers in April, 2008. Stay tuned for updates on a 2009 re-union, and in the meantime check out the video below for a sampling of the energy and grace of this years event! The Hoop Convergence was a gathering of hoopers from across the nation which created a synergistic learning environment where ideas, techniques, and energy were exchanged in abundance. It included a full schedule of workshops, panel discussions, crafting sessions and community jams with live music. The Convergence was held in the beautiful Hooper Haven of Carrboro, North Carolina, an area rich with experienced hoopers, grassroots communities and natural resources. HoopCon brought together the skills of talented teachers, performers and crafters from North Carolina and across North America. The Convergence is designed to be educational & inspiring for individuals seeking to: deepen their hoop practice learn a variety of movement techniques and approaches cultivate flow through practice and dialogue with the circle enhance teaching curriculums for a variety of settings learn ways to prevent injury while increasing flexibility and strength organize and promote community hoop events develop social outreach projects weave a web of relationships among hoop dancers polish performance skills sustain a hoop profession refine crafting skills learn about and ritualize the art of fire dance explore the mind-body-spirit connection through this revolving practice envision a revolution of peaceful, spiraling joy experience bliss assist with the organization of future convergences reflect on the evolution of hooping as a fun exercise, artform, spiritual practice and social movement inspire others through the sharing of your unique dance, voice and perspective See the complete Schedule for more details.
